Responsible Students Program

B.E.A.R.S.

(Be Eager and Responsible Students)

Developing responsible students at home and at school – being responsible and positive about school is a key to success.

Two Goals:

1.                Teach Standards and Character Development

2.                Follow Through With Expectations

1.                Teach Standards…

Be prepared for class including pencil, paper, books, agenda books, and homework completed.

Assignments must be written in the agenda books, agenda books taken home nightly, signed nightly and brought back to school the next day.

(This is a great way for teachers and parents to communicate through notes in the agenda book.)

Parents are asked not only to sign the agenda book but to check to make sure that all work is completed and ready for class the next day.

Be seated for class to begin and be ready for class.

Be ready for dismissal – stay in seat until dismissed by the teacher and have your materials ready for the next class or to go home.

Book bags are stored in the proper place in school.

Walk on the right side of the hallways; stairs; and sidewalks.

Move slowly and quietly to and from class.

Teach Character Development…

                   October                                 Caring

                   November & December      Responsibility

                   January                                 Trustworthiness

                   February                               Fairness

                   March & April                      Respect

                   May & June                          Citizenship

2.                Follow through with expectations.

What if a child doesn’t follow the standards?

1.                  The child receives Just a Reminder (JAR) form.

2.                  5 or more JAR forms in one week =

The student must attend the Responsible

Student Program (RSP) room.

Mrs. Di Bacco will re-teach the standards.

The parent will receive a letter about being in the RSP room.

3.                  RSP room 3 times in a row = Conference with student,

Mrs. Di Bacco and Mr. Band

Parent will receive a letter about the conference.

4.                  RSP room 5 times in a row = Conference with student,

Mrs. Di Bacco, Mr. Band and Parent.

What if a child does not receive any JAR forms in a week?

The child will receive a BEAR coupon.  The coupons can be “spent”…

…at the BEARS store to buy

pencils, paper, and other items;

…in place of a homework assignment

…extra points on a quiz

…extra points on a test

…extra points on an assignment

No JAR reminders for nine weeks means a membership

                  into the BEARS Den.

The students in the BEARS Den will receive a certificate

and a special activity planned by the school staff.

Please…

…check and make sure your child has all homework completed.

…sign the agenda book every night!!!
