Hero's Hall of Fame, 2004
Dr. Mary Boyd
This year's Hero's Hall of Fame ceremony took place on
May 28, 2004.
Our honoree was Elkins pediatrician Dr. Mary Boyd.
The ceremony opened with the presentation of the flag
by the school's Boy and Girl Scouts.

All of our previous Hero's Hall of Fame
members were present. Here they are, from left to right:
Jack Basil, Roger Bolyard, and Judy Guye.

Principal Barry Band talked about the many years
Dr. Boyd attended school to become a doctor.
She graduated from WV Wesleyan College
and had her medical training at West Virginia University.
Our 5th-grade band played the WVU fight song,
"Hail West Virginia."

Dr. Boyd has several hobbies, including swimming, hiking,
camping, bicycling, sewing and reading. She enjoys traveling
-
the montage of photographs now on the wall of our main hallway
includes a picture of Dr. Boyd and her daughter in front
of the
famous leaning tower in Pisa, Italy. In other pictures she
is
whitewater-rafting, skiing, and participating in a running
race.

She also enjoys singing in choirs, and has been a member
of the
Davis and Elkins College Oratorio Society for many years.
In
recognition of Dr. Boyd’s love for singing, our own choir
performed
a song composed by Mr. Green in her honor. The song is called
“In a Choir,” and Sean was featured as a soloist.

The choir also sang a song from the turn of
the century, "Mary's a Grand Old Name."
Finally, the entire student body sang a funny song
about a boy who gets sick: "Henry My Son."
Dr. Boyd then spoke to the audience with
gracious words of thanks.

We are proud to honor Dr. Mary Boyd
as the fourth member of
Third Ward Elementary School's
Hero's Hall of Fame.
