Grafton has celebrated Memorial Day for almost a century and a half. The year 2008 will mark its 141st anniversary. Originally, Memorial Day was known as “Flower Strewing Day” because the children placed flowers on the graves of fallen veterans. Although this tradition is still kept, it was renamed Memorial Day in 1882. Due to the continual enthusiasm from the area, Grafton’s division of the Veterans of Foreign Wars became known as Memorial City Post 3081 of the VFW.
