Classroom Projects

Internet access in Mrs. Romeo's class is project based and curriculum focused, not free time browsing. Without a teacher's presence, children do not have access to the Internet.  We find great ways of integrating the internet into our studies to enrich our learning.

98/99 Projects :
Science classes study how things move.
How much force is needed to move a brick?  What can you do to make the brick easier to move?  What is force, work, and friction?
As we explored these and other questions in our study of simple and complex machines, we also explored web sites with information about machines.

Fifth graders participate in Project Dare Program.

Officer Thomas leads students in weekly lessons on drug prevention.  Balloon Day was a kickoff of this great program with all fifth graders participating.  Assistant Principal Mr. Guido and Principal Mr. Poole assist with the activities.

Empty Quarter Expedition As we study early European explorers to the Americas, we will compare their explorations to this present day expedition of Canadian explorers.  They will be traveling by foot and camel in Arabia to explore the world's largest desert. Click on the picture to see the exciting technology and curriculum lessons that will correspond to their expedition.

97/98 Internet projects:

JASON@School Pilot Program:

We will be one of  500  schools participating in this high-quality, interactive project expedition.   The JASON Project curricular approach features advanced assessment strategies, hands-on learning modules, and inquiry-based field investigations.  Research areas will take us to:  Corals in Bermuda and Midwater Communities, Monterey Bay, and the East Pacific Rise.

Tidal Passages:

Tidal Passages is an interactive curriculum based expedition.  Students around the world will board the tall ship Alvei as she travels the oceans of the world following the historical sailing routes of early explorers.  Classrooms will have the opportunity to interact with crew members in the day to day operations of a ship reminiscent of a bygone era.  These students will be engaging in cultural, historical, and scientific exploration of water and land through experiences via the Internet.

Class Weather Station Students made homemade weather instruments to measure temperature, wind speed and direction, air pressure, and amount of rainfall. Classroom measurements were compared with other schools around the world by way of the internet. Daily forecasts were shared on the school network TV. On the first day of Spring, some 52 schools around the world reported their data to us.
