Flight Results(96-97)
Good afternoon from sunny, snowcovered, northeastern Minnesota. Here are our results of our test flights:
Team 3 averaged 16 feet. Their longest flight was 38 feet.
Team 2 averaged 20 feet. Their longest flight was 54 feet.
Team 1 averaged 12 feet. Their longest flight was 25 feet.
Team 4 averaged 19 feet. Their longest flight was 37 feet.
We had a blast test flying our planes. Again our longest flight was 54 feet.

I made my glider out of cardboard, venetian blinds, duct tape, paper clips and a wooden dowl. I started out by flying it the way a regular airplane flies, the large wings in front. The farthest we got was 42'. But then when we turned it around, rudder and tail first, it went 58'.
Average distance: 41 2/5 feet
Median distance: 42 feet

Hello, Southwood Elementary's flights are flown. We did pretty well, I thought. I did not help students construct or fly, other that give info about the principles of flight.
Average for class-- 43.4 decimeters
Median for class-- 38 decimeters
We sure learned alot about aviation and the internet.

Mr. Beamer's class from Southwood Elementary School of Wabash, Indiana.

We are finished with the flight testing. After a great deal of mental sweat, we have averaged our own, our teams, and our classes flight distances. I am proud of the job these Fourth Graders did. Not only did their planes take a beating (next year we'll use METAL meat trays!), but many of them took the planes home and constructed variations of the originals. Only one plane got stuck in the rafters of the gym.
Class average..................23'6"
Best distance...................60'11"
The best flight came from a plane that had its wings covered with brown packing tape!

Mr. Wilkes' class of Jmes Madison Elementary of Virginia, Minnesota.

We had 5 students participate. I printed the pattern out as is and also enlarged it so it fit the styrofoam tray better. Here are our results:
Wendy--83.7dm median, 72.1 dm average
Cody--86dm median, 86dm average
Kaleb--108.5dm median, 109.9dm average
Zach--57.8dm median, 57.5dm. average
Amy--38dm median,40.8dm average
