Nutter Fort Elementary School enjoys the luxury of having seven different Partners
in Education. Each of them have been involved in the school's student incentive programs
providing a variety of award for academic achievement and appropriate school
citzenship/conduct. Those incentives range from free meals or food coupons to various
cash awards. Most recently our responsible student/caught being good program sponsored
by our business partners awarded over ninety different prizes to our students
whose names were drawn at ramdom from a canidiate pole of nearly 550 students.
Our partnership both McDonald's and Wendy's has produced grants and awards totaling
$10,500 which was used to help develop our school's outdoor Science Center & Wetlands.
This program has received state wide recoginition and, it has been cited for excellence
by Governor Gaston Caperton. The project would not have been possible
without the support of our business partners.
Each Year K-Mart assists us in providing clothing for needy or at-Risk students
particularly during the winter months. K-Mart also sponsors the Its-a-Snap
program which provides free cameras and film to our Second graders for a unit they
do on Ecology and pollution.
Mary's Rose of Sharon provides floral arrangements for any activities at
school such as plays, meetings or assemblies. They also furnish a flower arrangement
to be given monthly to the staff member chosen as Employee of the Month.
One of our local law firms, McNeer, Highland & McMunn was also a supporter and
contributor to our outdoor Science center. They They also allow staff members to
participate as judges for various contests, read aloud volunteers, and tutorial
assistant.
Huntington Bank sponsors a school wide banking program to teach children the
value of savings and to teach banking procedures.
Nutter Fort Foodland for many years has sponsored a program which awards a penny
for every "A" our students earn each six weeks. That money is then donated to our
local Rescue Mission to provide staple food goods for their clients. From this our
students gain an incentive to work hard and they also participate in a valuable
community service.
Working together to make a Difference in Education Harrison County Schools and
Jostens Learning created a National partnership to "provide and enhance the learning
opportunities and experience for Harrison County Students through the use of
educational technology.
"This project has permitted us to introduce technology to
our students as they begin their educational experience. We are building the future
through our children." Allen Gorrell, Principal
"Our school is providing technology today for the future of tomorrow." Ron Poole -
Principal.
"Our teachers have the opportunity to provide input for technology program development;
two were the first teachers in the nation to use Teacher First." John Babyyak, Admin. Asst.
