Natural Lifeways, Inc., United Natural WV, the WV Sustainable Community Design Team & the WV Development Office announce a series of free, public workshops on sustainable development in West Virginia this summer.
You are cordially invited to attend. Each workshop is one full day on Fridays and lunch is included. You may bring your family and stay the rest of the weekend at any of the fine lodging facilities that we are using for the workshops.
August 1 in Bramwell, WV: Sustainable community design includes smart growth principles, edible landscapes, sustainable transport systems, integrated design and site specificity.
August 8 in Charleston, WV: Sustainable economic development. Regional supply chains, vertical technology integration, and future market stabilization.
August 15 in Weston, WV: Governance and sustainable policymaking that includes Community Development Organizations, Regionalism, Private Authorities and "Notay" Contracts.
August 22 in Summersville, WV: Organizing education to address the future. Aligning drive forces for enhancing student and teacher performance, lifelong learning and targeting educational end games.
August 29 in Davis, WV: Regional wellness networks. Improving health care with a regional wellness focus, simplified pay structure and tort/insurance reform.
September 12 in Morgantown, WV: Renewable energy, advanced energy technologies and energy efficiency. Renewable energy and energy-related strategies for sustainable communities.
The general workshop format is:
10 a.m. Workshop Begins – Introductions
10:15 a.m. Presentation of the "Sustainable City of the Future" concept. We'll identify components of your community vision.
11:30 a.m. Presentation of community related information and maps of available sites. We'll establish a clearinghouse to gather and report information about projects.
12:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided, brainstorming and discussions about cooperation begin.
2:00 p.m. Cooperation and site planning activity. We'll focus on one community project to tackle immediately.
3:00 p.m. We will use the "charrette" process to write a charter, establish a task force and plan for action, including a vision, guiding principles and identification of existing resources.
4:00 p.m. Workshop Adjourns.
