The Sinks of Gandy are located above Whitmer, West Virginia in Randolph County. The
Sinks were formed when the Gandy Creek flowed headlong against the limestone ledge of
Yokum Knob. After many years it carved a 3/4 mile tunnel through the hillside. The mouth
of the tunnel measures thirty feet wide by fifteen feet high. The water is an average of
10-12 inches deep and the roof of the tunnel is from 6-30 feet above the stream bed.
The Sinks of Gandy are now privately owned by the Teter family. Even though they are privately owned they still attract caving enthusiasts, geologists, and tourists alike with their rugged beauty and mysterious past. Below are some pictures of The Sinks captured in their natural beauty during each season.
