Attention Juniors and Seniors!
College-bound students should always plan to take the ACT exam upon successful completion of Geometry. There’s still have time to register with a late fee for the October 23rd test. Otherwise, the ACT will be administered in December, February, April and June. Don’t delay! To register for the exam visit www.actstudent.org and be sure to use high school code 490-495 so that your scores can be sent to Grafton High School to be added to your transcripts.
Students 9-12: Applications are available in the Guidance Office for the Junior Volunteer Program Auxiliary to United Hospital Center. You must have at least a 2.5 grade point average, in good standing with the school and community and be at least 14 years of age. You can pick up an application in the Guidance Office and they must be completed and returned by Tuesday, October 12th to Ms. Coplin.
Seniors:
- FIRE (Foundation for Individual Rights in Education) is seeking essays for the third annual Freedom in Academia essay contest. This is a nationwide contest and winners could win up to $5,000 in scholarships. To learn more about this opportunity, interested applicants should visit www.thefire.org, or stop by the Counseling Department bulletin board, located just outside the Main Office on the right as you head up the ramp.
- The Horatio Alger Association is seeking students who have demonstrated integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character, financial need, a good academic record, commitment to pursue a college education, and a desire to contribute to society. One unique criterion for this scholarship is that it only requires a 2.0 GPA. Additional scholarship information is posted on the Counseling bulletin board across from the office.
- University of Charleston Band and Choir Talent Scholarship Auditions will be held on October 9th, November 20th, December 4th and January 29th. If you cannot attend any of these dates, please contact the conductor to schedule a special audition. Information for doing so is posted on the Counseling Department bulletin board.
- If you are interested in Aviation Maintenance Technology, Aviation Maintenance Management, Aviation Administration Management or Aviation Administration Professional Flight Careers, Robert C. Byrd National Aerospace Education Center in Bridgeport WV is having an OPEN House on October 30, 2010 from 1-4.
- University of Charleston will be hosting a fall open house on Saturday November 20th. To register a visit: www.ucwv.edu or call 800-995-4682.
- Attention Seniors – The Elks National Foundation’s Most Valuable Student Scholarship contest has begun. The deadline is December 1, 2010. Additional information is available on the Counseling Department bulletin board. Applications are available in the Counseling Department and online at www.elks.org/enf/sholars
