Hello, and welcome to Elkins High School.
My name is Tom Pritt and I have been the principal of Elkins High School for nine years.
During that tenure we have made many changes at our school. In the Fall of 1993 we moved
into a new facility that contains 160,000 square feet of floor space. We are located
adjacent to the Randolph County Vocational Technical Center which provides added curriculum
opportunities to our students. This facility also serves as a community college for
Fairmont State College with both evening courses and dual credit opportunities during the
instructional day. We are a member school of the High Schools that work initiative and
also maintain an accreditation with the North Central Association. We have approximately
945 students in grades nine through twelve as well as a Trainable Mentally Impaired
program serving students age fifteen through twenty-one.
We are very proud of the curriculum offerings at our school considering the
fact that we are located in a rather rural area. Students have the availability of honors
and advanced courses as well as basic skills programs. We have a total of twenty-seven
hours of college credit available during the junior and senior years. We plan to expand
these offerings to include German and art in the near future. Students also have the
opportunity to attend either Davis and Elkins College or Fairmont State College on a
part-time basis while completing the graduation requirements. Our staff of sixty-one
teachers has a great number of master's degrees as well as multi-certified personnel. We
are proud of the fact that over the past five years, an average of sixty-one percent of
our graduates have enrolled in college.
Should you have the opportunity to
be in our area be sure to stop by and visit our
school. Personnel is on hand during the summer months to provide assistance and tours of
the facility. I am sure you will be impressed with the academic standards of our school as
well as the scenic beauty of Randolph County and West Virginia.
