Elkins High School is organized into a four block system. There are four
90 minute classes a day. A normal year long class lasts one semester and students can earn
up to eight credits in one school year. The advantages of the
semesterized 4 block system, 90 minute period day, are many. Students have more
time in class with the teacher each day, allowing them to complete work and receive
immediate feedback and help; teachers teach a maximum of three blocks in one day each
semester which allows them to have more time for their students in general and to focus on
helping individual students; and teachers have the time needed to try a variety of
teaching methods to provide for the various learning styles of their students.
