Update on The Danny Heater Story
(On the Big Screen)

At Burnsville Elementary School, the story of Danny Heater is very much alive. In a 32-minute high school basketball game, Danny scored 135 points--the most ever by a high school, college, or professional player. Along with a documentary being produced by Kevin Downs, a screen writing and film directing professor at Georgetown University, Diane Wiltjer has purchased the creative rights to Heater's story and is planning a full-length feature film or a made for television movie.  Recently there has been much national publicity via Associated Press Writer, John Raby.   February marks the 30th Anniversary of the event.

Grandpa Jim
FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM

Burnsville Elementary School was very fortunate to become a participant in the Foster Grandparent Program.  We currently have our first Foster Grandparent who is assigned to help one of our fourth grade students.  We welcome Grandpa Jim (Jim Bosely) to Burnsville Elementary School.  Jim is employed through the Region VII Aging Services, Inc., Foster Grandparent Program.  If your school is interested in participating in the Program, please contact your Regional Aging Services Office.

BETTY NICHOLSON RETIRES

Mrs. Nicholson has worked at Burnsville Schools since 1966.  She has served as a Title I Classroom Aid, a Tutorial Aid, and as a Kindergarten Classroom Aid.  Over the years many children, and adults, learned to love Betty and to appreciate her dedication.  She is fondly remembered by some of her students as  "Sarge", by others as "Mom", and by some as "Granny".   If you see Betty, extend your wishes for happiness in her retirement.
