BES Students Create Bus Safety Video

"Lights!" "Cameras!" "Action!" "Could someone stop the traffic on Interstate 79?" On September 26, 1997, Burnsville Elementary Students in grades 3 and 4 produced their first informational video called "Be Cool-Follow the Rules" to reinforce the importance of school bus safety.

With the video camera manned by principal, Mike McCoy, students acted in skits to demonstrate the following bus safety rules:

  1. Avoid horseplay at the bus stop.
  2. Stay at least 10 feet away from the bus while it is moving.
  3. Stay in single file when getting on and off the bus.
  4. Be on time.
  5. Keep aisles clear.
  6. Obey the bus driver.
  7. Talk quietly. (No talking at railroad crossings.)
  8. Keep head and hands inside the bus.

Special thanks go to Mr. Junior Wine, driver of bus 60, who helped us film our project; Elaine Wine, counselor, who sang with the 1st and 2nd grade students "The Wheels on the Bus"; and Sandy Post & Brenda Bleigh, film directors.
