BHS Key Clubbers Attend International Convention
Each year Key Club International holds an international convention for all members to learn new things, better clubs, meke new friends, and share the spirit of service. The 2008 Key Club International Convention was held in Denver Colorado on July 9th-13th. It was the 65th Annual convention with over 1,500 Key Clubbers in attendance, from over 50 Key Club nations. Among these students were 11 members of the BHS Key Club. The members included: Alayca Coleman, Eric Yurko, Michael Kornbrath, Jessica Koon, Josh White, Cheyenne LaClair, Kitrina Daughenbaugh, Beth White, Jacob Mariner, Sara Hinkle, and Caitlin Fehrs. The students were also accompanied by advisor Debbie Nicholson, and traveled with the West Virginia District to the "Mile High City."
The entire week was packed full of travel, fun, learning, bonding, and many new experiences. Once arriving at convention there were many activities planned. There was a "meet and greet," three general sessions, countless workshops and forums, a wonderful and hilarious keynote speaker, a comedian, caucusing, Charity Walk, House of Delegates, Mass, and two dances (Luau and Rock and Roll). Each Bridgeport Key Club member attended five forums to help better themselves personally as officers, to help better the club, and to learn about all of the new projects and fundraisers of Key Club International.
In addition, the BHS Key Club was recognized by Key Club International as a Distinguished Club based on its service projects and hours for the 2007-2008 school year. Eric Yurko, a BHS Key Club member and member of the West Virginia Key Club Board of Directors, was recognized as a Distinguished District Bulletin Editor. When asked how he felt about Key Club, he responded, "Key Club really gets me going in the morning!"
The activities didn't stop once the convention was over for the West Virginia District. After convention, the District visited a water park, the Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs, Pike's Peak, the Olympic Training Center, and also the Air Force Academy.
International Convention was truly a great experience for every Key Clubber in attendence. The week was full of meeting new people and definitely learning how to better our home clubs, our divisions, and our District as a whole.
