PHILOSOPHY
      We the staff of Anna Jarvis Elementary School dedicate ourselves to assisting children in their development as worthwhile and useful individuals. With the use of academic, social, physical, and emotional objectives, that are congruent with the State of West Virginia and Taylor County Boards of Education's policies, we will provide each child the opportunity to formulate a cooperative spirit, a sense of responsibility and positive attitudes that are germane to family, school, and community environments.
       We further recognize that each child has the right to; (a) be loved and accepted, (b) be secure and relatively free of threat, (c) belong, to identify themselves as part of a group, (d) be approved and recognized for the way in which they function, and (e) move toward independence, responsibility, and positive decision-making. With total commitment to these rights and in conjunction with the Taylor County Board of Education philosophy objectives, that local school curricula shall develop in children:

l. skills in reading. writing, spelling, perceiving, speaking, listening, adding, subtracting,
multiplying. dividing, and using reference materials;

2. the knowledge of governmental, social, and economic systems in order to make
informed choices:

3. the knowledge. skills, and attitudes required to function successfully in advanced
academic and 'technical training programs and useful occupations;

4. the knowledge. skills, and attitudes necessary to develop self-esteem;

5. the knowledge. skills, and attitudes related to the creative, visual, and performing artsto enrich the quality of their lives and provide an understanding of culture and heritage;

6. the knowledge. skills, and attitudes related to science and technology, rational decision-making. and creative problem solving in order to function successfully in a high technological society:

7. the knowledge. skills, and attitudes related to health, safety, physical fitness, and
recreation necessary to maintain an active mind and body; and

8. the knowledge and skills to become computer literate.

The staff at Anna Jarvis Elementary School will provide every effort to determine where each child works best and then through planned experiences and selected materials, the student's school plan will be developed. Furthermore, parents and teachers will be encouraged to work together as a team so that the "whole child" is seen and nurtured.
