Computer Acceptable Use Policy


This summary is for the students of Adamston Elementary School.  A complete copy of the technology policy is available in the school’s office, computer lab, library, and the county office.  The policy is too lengthy to give every student a copy. Please feel free to visit the school to review the policy.  Please understand that your child’s learning, safety and opportunities are foremost when the policies and violations are considered.

COUNTY COMPUTER/INTERNET ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY
1. A teacher will be present to supervise while students are on the Internet

2. All use of the Internet must be educational

3. The Internet shall not be used to facilitate illegal activity

4. Computer and Internet access is to be used by authorized students only

5. Passwords are never to be shared.  No one is allowed to use another student’s card or password

6. Users shall not intentionally seek information on, obtain copies, and modify files, other data or passwords belonging to other users

7. No use of the computer or Internet shall serve to disrupt the use of the computer by others.  This includes the destruction or modification of hardware or software

8. The computer or Internet shall not be used for harassment, discriminatory remarks, the distribution of hate mail, or other antisocial behaviors

9. The computer or Internet shall not be utilized to access any obscene, violent, pornographic, or illegal material.  The lab administrator/teacher reserves the right to determine the appropriateness of a site.

10. The computer or Internet shall not be used to transmit material that is likely to be offensive or objectionable to the recipient

SCHOOL COMPUTER/INTERNET ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY
1. Follow guidelines set by your teacher.  Know the rules set by the school and the Harrison County Board of Education.

2. Do not give out personal information or password information

3. Report to your teacher problems relating to inappropriate language or graphics.

4. Use techniques provided by the teacher to search safely online.

5. Remember you will be held responsible for your actions.  You may not download files onto the computers.  Every student will be given a topic to search.  No student will be allowed to search freely on the Internet.  Every student must have an intentional educational purpose for using the computers.

ALL STUDENTS WILL BE ASKED TO USE THE COMPUTERS APPROPRIATELY
1. Please place only a 3.5 disk in the disk drive.

2. Please place only a CD in the CD-ROM drive.

3. Please refrain from writing on the mouse pads, tables, keys or the monitors.

4. Please log on and log off as demonstrated by the teacher.

5. Please remember the computers are networked and wiring is very sensitive.  Any tampering of
wires is prohibited.

6. Please leave the computer, monitor and printer settings as designated.

7. Please do not place any foreign objects on, in, or near the computers.

From time to time, determinations might be made on whether specific uses of the network are consistent with the policy on acceptable use practices.  The school/teacher reserves the right to monitor student use of the computer.  The school technology committee, principal or the Board of Education may periodically modify the county policy or school policy.  Students and parents will be notified in writing in the school’s newsletter.
