A WORD FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Welcome to Gore Middle School. GMS serves sitxth, seventh, and eigth graders from three elementary schools: Adamston, North View, and Wilsonburg. Upon completion of middle school, our students attend Liberty High School. Gore Middle has a rich history, first opening in 1963. At the conclusion of the 2006-2007 school year, Gore Middle will merge with Salem Middle to form MOUNTAINEER MIDDLE SCHOOL.

All students attend five core classes: English, Math, Reading, Social Studies, and Science. In addition, a student's day may include PE, Band, Exploratory classes and an Advisory/Advisee period. Exploratory classes include Art, Computer, Music/Choir, FLEX(Foreign Language Exploratory), Academic Enrichment, Assisted Reading, Assisted Math, Health, and Careers.

Our school boasts the use of three computer labs as well as a grant-funded portable, wireless laptop station. Technology is integrated into each student's education.

Advisor-Advisee is a homeroom period at the beginning and end of each day. Afternoon activities include intramurals, clubs, sustained silent reading, character education, library, Channel One and Quiz Bowl. On Tuesdays and Thursdays this school year, students report to CALLBACK, a specially-designed opportunity for reteaching areas of need identified by our teachers during analysis of WESTEST results.

Our Responsible Student Program (RSP)reinforces students' responsible behavior and helps them become organized. The RSP has resulted in more effective teaching practices, increased instructional time, improved home-school communication, and increased community support for our school.

A monthly newsletter is being mailed home each month this school year. Newsletters keep parents abreast of school-related information as well as upcoming events and menus.

The faculty and staff of Gore Middle sincerely hope that your visit to our web site will be an informative one. Our desire is to continue to strive for and attain excellence in student achievement and meeting the overall needs of our students and the community in which we serve.

Please feel free to contact our school with any concerns or comments.
